It's the default for homework. You still get to the answer — you just get there in steps you could reproduce on a test, with the gap saved so it stops repeating.

When you want the answer instead
Switch to Answer in the composer and Sugar gives the worked solution outright — useful when you're checking your own work or short on time before a deadline. Explain walks through the whole idea from scratch. There is no fourth mode: Teach back is a pill that appears under a reply when you want to explain it back and receive feedback. New accounts need Thrifty for Teach-back; older accounts keep their existing access. Guide Me is simply the default, not a lock.
Why we default to it
A copied answer disappears by the next quiz. A step you produced yourself, plus a recall question a week later, is the part that survives. That's the whole product.
