FAA Private Pilot Airplane · knowledge test (PAR)

Close the knowledge gaps that keep returning in ground lessons.

Exam preparation for the written FAA Private Pilot Airplane knowledge test. Answer, find the mix-up, see the reasoning, try a question you haven't seen, and get the miss back right before you'd forget it.

The exam

  • FAA Airman Knowledge Test, Private Pilot Airplane (code PAR): 60 multiple-choice questions.
  • Time limit and pass mark are set in the FAA Airman Knowledge Testing Matrix (currently 2.5 hours, 70%). Check the matrix before you book.
  • Built against the Private Pilot Airplane ACS, FAA-S-ACS-6C (effective May 31, 2024).
  • Figures on the real test come from FAA-CT-8080-2H, the testing supplement. Ours are original drawings for practice, not copies.

Coverage, honestly

The question bank is original, written from free FAA handbooks and regulations, and is in instructor review. Today no question has completed review by a scoped FAA reviewer — every question is labelled "draft" until it does, and your results page shows reviewed coverage by ACS area.

Most knowledge areas have questions. Flight-maneuver tasks (steep turns, stalls, landings and similar) have little or none here — those belong in the airplane with your instructor.

What this is not

  • Not FAA-approved, and not a licence, certificate or required training credit.
  • Not an instructor endorsement. You still need the endorsement your rules require to sit the test.
  • Not a pass prediction. Knowledge practice says nothing about flying skill.

What payment adds
Planning to your test date, saved history, misses that come back for review, timed mocks, and working with your instructor in a cohort. Not the questions themselves.
How long
As long as your Thrifty plan is active. Pilot access from a partner school lasts the dates shown on your plan page.
Renewal
Thrifty renews as your plan says, and you can cancel any time. Pilot access never renews and never charges you.
When access ends
When access ends, your answers, review schedule, mock results and cohort feedback are kept. Practice and review pause until access returns; you can still see that your history exists. Delete it any time by deleting your account.

With Thrifty

  • A short starting check, then one clear session a day sized to your test date.

  • Timed 60-question mocks that resume after a reload.
  • Results that separate first-try, delayed recall and familiar-question accuracy.
